The magic of alcohol ink

Alcohol-based ink layers and blends with remarkable ease. The colours merge to create smooth gradients, subtle shadows and soft transitions that are impossible with a regular felt-tip. It's the go-to technique for illustrators, manga artists and colouring enthusiasts looking for a professional finish.

Two tips, one marker

Each alcohol marker combines two complementary tips: a flexible brush tip that responds to pressure for generous fills and fine lines alike, paired depending on the model with a fine tip (precise outlines, details, lettering) or a chisel tip (for lettering and geometric fills). One marker thus replaces two tools, giving you more freedom in your work.

Choosing the right set

A focused palette — skin tones for portraits, pastels for soft moods — helps you learn blending with harmonious shades. The large sets, up to 320 colours, cover the entire spectrum, from the purest white to the deepest black. Depending on the model, the brush tip is paired with a fine tip (outlines, details) or a chisel tip (lettering and fills): both are used in the same way. To help you find your way, our colour charts list every shade by its code.

Frequently asked questions — Alcohol markers

Which paper should I use with alcohol markers?
Choose smooth, thick paper made specifically for markers, which stops the ink bleeding through and makes blending easier. Paper that's too thin lets ink seep through to the back.
How do I create a smooth gradient (blending)?
Work quickly while the ink is still wet: lay down the darkest colour, then blend it with a lighter shade or the colourless blender. Layering while wet gives the softest transitions.
Do alcohol markers dry out quickly over time?
Capped properly, they keep for a long time. Store them horizontally so the ink stays spread across both tips.
Are they suitable for beginners?
Yes, if you start with a reasonably sized set and suitable paper. Blending is quick to pick up with a little practice, and the results are very rewarding.
